This is an attempt at keeping information regarding an Abyssal game in one place. The game will be called "The Coming Tide", and focus on the rise of the Silver Princes' grand navy in the West of Creation.
Thus far, the only things planned are a few details around the players' roles as Deathknights in charge of a navy. The details that are certain so far are as follows:
You will play Abyssal Exalts working for the Bodhisavatta Anointed In Dark Waters, also known as the Silver Prince. You mission is to subvert the West under his command, using either subtle diplomacy or outright conquest where needed. Essentially, he wants you to "soften up" the West before the Coming Tide, the time when he sends out his entire fleet to destroy the world. At your disposal, you will have a number of troops equal to the sum of your Abyssal Command background, as well as a legendary artifact ship: The Obsidian Scythe.
The primary objective you have is to defeat and drive back the Lintha pirates of the Southwest, as they are the most staunch rulers of the Western Seas. They are a tribe of legendary, deadly pirates with the touch of demons' blood in their veins. Their capitol, Bluehaven, is hidden somewhere in the Southwest, where they command the forces of Malfeas itself. Standing between you and the Lintha, however, are the free peoples of the West, as well as the Imperial Fleet of the Realm.
What I ask of you:
That your characters have a detailed personality (duh) beyond just being a collection of dots on a paper.
That they have a Motivation not directly related to destroying the Lintha. While they shouldn't be diametrically opposed to the Silver Princes' goals, they should give your character some personal, individual goals to follow - feel free to act on this Motivation in a way which would severely annoy the Silver Prince. Aim to misbehave.
That you choose a preferred Dark Fate/Resonance-thingy. The game says you can vary between them, but I'd like you to choose one which fits your character. Resonance is like Limit Break, but it accumulates when you act against the will and nature of the Neverborn - such as caring about living things, disobeying a Deathlord, et cetera, et cetera. Choose whether you prefer Blight, Branding, Conduit, or Stigmata. (Pages 114-115 of the Abyssals book).
That you discuss your characters' relations to each other before the start of the game. They haven't known each other for long, naturally, but I would like to begin with some idea of how you guys relate to each other. Something along the lines of "Bob thinks John is a great guy" is the bare minimum, but feel free to make dramatic tensions as well.
That you pick Intimacies, one per point of Compassion. Intimacies related to protecting, creating, or nurturing life automatically give you Resonance and so are going to cause problems. Intimacies to ghosts or the dead, say "I'm still in love with my wife. Her corpse is in my bunk." won't give you any problems at all, nor will Intimacies related to strictly concepts (such as "Patriotism to my old nation", although in this case you'll probably want them to join you in glorious undead perfection). You may choose Intimacies to each other as well, but in that case I want you to elaborate a bit more than "Bob thinks John is a great guy", above.
Feel free to ask questions. Also feel free to make this blog less ugly.
